Abu Dhabi Traffic Fine Reduction: Automatic Police Discount vs. Court Request

Abu Dhabi traffic fine reduction works in two distinct ways: an automatic discount applied by Abu Dhabi Police, and a reduction request submitted through the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD). They are not the same thing, they follow different rules, and knowing which one applies to your fines can save you real money. This guide explains both, so you can pick the right route.

Two routes to Abu Dhabi traffic fine reduction

Many drivers assume there is a single “fine discount”. In practice, Abu Dhabi traffic fine reduction comes from two separate mechanisms:

  • Automatic discount: applied by Abu Dhabi Police to eligible fines, with no application needed.
  • Reduction request: a request you submit through ADJD to have your traffic fines transferred to the traffic court, which then decides on them.

Automatic Abu Dhabi traffic fine reduction from Police

Abu Dhabi Police applies this traffic fine reduction automatically to eligible fines. You do not need to apply, call or visit anyone. The size of the discount depends on how quickly you pay after the fine is issued:

  • 35% off if you pay within the first 60 days.
  • 25% off if you pay after 60 days and up to one year from the date of the fine.
  • No discount once more than a year has passed.

Serious violations are excluded from the discount, so always check the fine itself before assuming it qualifies.

Where to see the discount

The discounted amount appears in the TAMM app. It does not show in bank apps, in payment-collection apps such as Al Ansari, or in the Ministry of Interior app, so check the amount in TAMM before you pay.

Paying in instalments

If the amount is large, fines can be split into 12 interest-free monthly instalments using credit cards from participating partner banks.

Abu Dhabi traffic fine reduction request through the Judicial Department

The second route to Abu Dhabi traffic fine reduction is a request submitted through ADJD to transfer your traffic fines to the traffic court. It is separate from the automatic Police discount and is useful when you want the court to review the fines instead of paying them as issued.

The service is available 24/7. The court’s decision is issued automatically, and the final amount is whatever the court decides, not a fixed percentage.

How to submit an Abu Dhabi traffic fine reduction request

  1. Open the ADJD website or app.
  2. Go to Prosecutions, then choose Request to transfer traffic fines to court.
  3. Select the issuing authority: Abu Dhabi Police or the Integrated Transport Centre.
  4. Attach your fine statement, which you can download from the TAMM app.
  5. Submit the request and follow the decision under My Requests.

What happens after the decision

  • You receive an SMS with a payment link, and the request also appears under My Requests in ADJD.
  • Any search-hold on your record is lifted once the fine is paid.

Automatic discount vs. court request: key differences

  • Who decides: Abu Dhabi Police applies the discount by rule; the traffic court decides on a transferred request.
  • Application: the discount is automatic; the court route needs a request through ADJD.
  • Amount: the discount is a fixed 35% or 25% depending on timing; the court route is set by the court’s decision.
  • Where to check: the discount shows in TAMM; the court request is tracked in ADJD.

Which route should you choose?

If your fines are recent and eligible, paying inside the first 60 days gets the highest automatic Abu Dhabi traffic fine reduction with no extra steps. If the fines are older, or you want the court to review them, the ADJD request is the route to consider. Whichever you choose, start by downloading your fine statement in TAMM and checking exactly what you owe.
